  Internships


 The AIESEC Global Internship Program is the most intense learning experience that connects members through its global network. Each year, more than 7500 students and recent graduates travel abroad with the challenging opportunity to live and work in a foreign country. AIESEC offers four streams of work opportunities within the areas of management, education, technology, and community development. Placements are offered worldwide in regions: South-East Asia, South-Asia, Africa, Middle East, Central- and South-America and Europe.


Internship Process

Eligibility:
Applicants can apply as a current student or within 2 years from Graduation date. Candidates must be 18-30 years of age. 

Step 1: Selection
You (the candidate) must complete and submit the Global Internship Program application that will be provided by the Outgoing Exchange Team. This is followed by mandatory sessions that consist of teamwork activities with other participants and a one-on-one interview with a working professional, professor, and alumni member to assess your suitability to become an Exchange Participant (EP). You will be selected based on your education, skills, language certifications, and leadership experience.

Step 2: Matching
You (the participant) have access and are introduced to our online database of internship opportunities. Your profile is then entered in the database and you are trained on how to search for placements that are suitable to your profile. AIESEC Ryerson’s Outgoing Exchange Team will support you throughout this step to help you find a matching internship.

Step 3: Preparation:
You are provided with resources, training, and support to prepare you to live and work in the foreign country. This includes AIESEC knowledge, logistical details; visa processing, and cultural shock preparation.

Step 4: Integration:
AIESEC members in your host country provides support and assistance in airport pickup, accommodation and travel.

The International Exchange program offers 4 different types of work opportunities, depending on your field of study and previous experience:

Education Internship**

Development Internship**

Defined: Provides the opportunity to work in areas related to education, such as teaching a language, teaching a subject, curriculum development, character development, career counseling, cultural interaction and perspective promotion in academic fields or sectors. You must have academic and working backgrounds in the field of education.  

Qualities: good communication skills, ability to work well in a group setting  

Skills required/suggested: computer skills, presentation skills, client servicing skills, training/facilitating skills, team management  

Example of job description: Give lessons to both youths and adults to improve their oral English and to know more about Western Culture. Cooperate with colleagues from different countries to do some promotion job to spread impact of the institution. Take part in different activities with students and get chances to get close to local people to know more about Eastern Culture.  

Defined: Provides the opportunity to work in areas related to community development issues, such as children’s rights, environmental issues, education, rural development and entrepreneurship.  

Qualities: adaptable, flexible, proactive, culturally sensitive  

Skills required/suggested: computer skills, project management, team management, language teaching, strong volunteer background  

Top companies/organizations: World Without Borders, YES (Young Entrepreneurs) PROJECT, ASK Project  

Example of job description: Prepare creative sessions on each topic (personal responsibility, climate change, sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, social impact)for students, with another trainee. Raise the students’ awareness about sustainable development and change their overview and attitudes relating to environmental and social responsibility.  

Technical Internship**

Management Internship**

Defined: Provides the opportunity to work in areas related to information technology or engineering projects. Technical skills, experience and expertise are required to participate in this type of internship.  

Qualities: hands-on  

Skills required/suggested: project management, client servicing skills, presentation skills, Photoshop, MySQL, UNIX/Linux OS, Programming skills: SQL, XML C++, PHP, Javascript  

Top companies/organizations:
Electrolux

Example of job description: Software development, Testing and quality assurance. Perform professional technique and skill about IT knowledge to support the project execution in target market. Develop, test and evaluate methods and procedures for text fragmentation of according to specifications for fragment frames.  

Defined: Provides the opportunity to work in areas related to management, such as finance, accounting, marketing, project management, organizational management or human resources.  

Qualities: people skills, organized  

Skills required/suggested: project management, international resource management, database management, client servicing skills, computer skills, financial management skills, consumer + buyer behaviour  

Top companies/organizations: PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS,  Microsoft, Aritmisia, Vale, UBS, & Unilever 

Example of job description: Create and execute project work plans. Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. Manage project budget. Liaise with Finance Dept for issuing invoices and payment collection.  

**Duration of internships vary from 3 months to 1 year
depending on the company and your availability.
