How to Participate in the Global Internship Program

Visit AIESEC Canada's Global Internship Program page to learn about the four types of internships we offer (management, technical, developmental, education) and the five-step process to our program. An AIESEC internship can last anywhere from 2-18 months, and students can apply for up to two years after graduating. Participants must be 29 years of age or under. Students may participate in the Global Internship Program while they are still in university. It is difficult to do a Management or Technical internship over the summer, but it is possible to do a Developmental or Education internship during that time.

Steps to become accepted for the Global Internship Program:

Understand AIESEC and get involved!
- Attend an AIESEC conference or info session
- Take responsability: help out our local projects, make some marketing calls...
- Become a leader: talk to your VPs to check out for current leadership positions.
- Not sure how to get involve? Please schedule a Talent Discovery Talk with our VP Talent Management.
Fill out the pre-selection form and send it to your VP Outgoing Exchange
Attend a 5 minute meeting which will assess your personality type and motivation for going on an internship
Complete the certification test for the Exchange Module. The Exchange Module is on the online database containing approximately 5,000 jobs around the world
Pass our Assessment Centre - activities to assess your adaptability, cross-cultural communication skills
Proceed on to the formal interview process, known as the Review Board. You will be evaluated on a variety of criteria, including education, work and volunteer experience, attitude, and AIESEC involvement.
Pay the program fee ($400)
Once your application is accepted, you will be entered into AIESEC's online job database (Exchange Module) and can start applying for positions around the world

There are a variety of positions available and constantly changing, so it is up to you to decide what type of position you are looking for, and in which areas of the world. Most companies will conduct telephone interviews with potential candidates.

Provided below are five job descriptions found on AIESEC’s Global Internship Program database during summer 2007.These are designed as sample postings to demonstrate the types of positions AIESEC offers.These specific job postings will not necessarily be available upon application to the Global Internship Program.

Posting #1 – Computer Science
Location: Linköping, Sweden
Company: Zenterio AB
Internship Length: 26-52 weeks
Job Description:

Be a part of the software development team, creating new innovative applications for mobile use in the area of content distribution and consumption. Implement software (client & server) in C++ and/or Java.
Be a part of the system architecture team deciding the setup of the software system, features and goals.
Perform system and module test, support the deployment tasks.

Posting #2 – Mechanical Engineering
Location: Singapore
Company: FMC Technologies Singapore Pte Ltd.
Internship Length: 78 weeks
Job Description:

Initiate, check and review drawings drawn by designers and drafters. Create engineering documents such as Data Base Information, ECNs, reports, procedures, date sheets etc. Conduct/participate in design reviews.
Participate in assembly and testing of equipment, support manufacturing, Quality Control, assembly and testing activities as well as field installation work.
Assist in field service related issue: occasional travel to field site to assist with product related issues. Occasional travel to customer site for customer visit (non-essential function of the job).

Posting #3 - Marketing
Location: Vietnam
Company: Electrolux Internship Length: 24-52 weeks
Job Description:

To provide support to the marketing manager in Vietnam.
Study and document major appliance distribution channel in the country.
Compare Electrolux distribution versus universe and discover opportunity for improvement in Electrolux distribution network.
To find out Electrolux branding status in Vietnam (making SWOT analysis for the brand).
Perform other special assignments from Marketing Manager regarding to products management and categories management.

Posting #4 – Human Resource Management
Location: Cairo, Egypt
Company: Resource Professionals
Internship Length: 52 weeks
Job Description:

Collect CVs, Classify CVs, Evaluate people via personal interviews, contact clients, searching in the database. Also writing HR & non-Hr related proposals
Come up with a new marketing strategy to attract more clients, which includes modifying the mission statement, vision. Intern will also be required to bring ideas for a new logo and slogan.
The website will need some design changes to be user friendly which the intern will work on with an IT person.
Intern will do a salary survey for all employees as well as a research on potential clients and try contacting them.

Location: Eldoret, Kenya
Company: Hillcrest Schools
Internship Length: 32 weeks
Job Description:

Teach a physical education and sports class
- Help in communicating subject knowledge.
- Provide an opportunity for less able students to understand and process material and maintain a classroom atmosphere which promotes the learning of all students.
- Must regularly assess the performance of a class both formally & informally (through tests, practical work & homework).
- Support the school’s extracurricular programs e.g. plays, music events & teams sports.
- Go on school trips (Optional)

Posting #6 – Community Development

Location: Calcutta, India
Company: Rajabazar Education and Awareness Development Society (READS)
Internship Length: 8-16 weeks
Job Description:

The intern will be responsible for the planning of forthcoming and co-ordination of the ongoing projects. The intern has to take a lot of initiative on her own and should have good communicative skills to interact with the companies. There is the possibility of constant supervision by READS and by AIESEC-trainees who have absolved this traineeship before.
The intern will also work towards raising funds by formulating sponsorship details for their projects
The intern will be interacting and with children who have faced child labour, trafficking and migration. And spending time with them and in turn implementing the organisation's projects.
The intern will also interact with women who are getting trained to make their own living through the right vocational methods.
The intern will really have an opportunity to express her ideas and thoughts which will definitely work out for the betterment of both.
